Otis Spann - The Blues Of...

A Mike Vernon-produced British album from 1964 that was one of Spann's first full-length dates as a leader. Nice band, too: Muddy Waters on guitar, bassist Ransom Knowling, and drummer Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, along with a young Eric Clapton playing on a couple of cuts. Spann plays a harpsichord on a few items; needless to say, they aren't the album's shining moments! (Bill dahl - Allmusic)
Got to agree about the harpsichord tracks.

    Actually it was an upright piano with thumb tacks in the hammers. The sleeve notes to the LP contain quite a bit of hokum regarding his military service.

    Thanks X...every time I think I have most of the Otis Spann releases another one pops up. Of course their are quite a few repackages. My hope is that one day somebody will issue an exhaustive box set. IMHO he is one of the top 3 blues piano players...I think he richly deserves a Box Set release.
