It seems that it was photographed in Paris, France. Maybe at the "Canal Saint-Martin". There is a Citroen 2CV and a typical parisian réverbère (street lamp) in the background... Just my two cents :))

You could be right Uncle Gil. Though the 2CV was very populair in the Netherlands in the 60's/70's. Can't remember what the street lights looked like in Amsterdam back then.

With nothing better to do on a rainy morning I dived into Google Maps and looked up Canal Saint-Martin. Uncle Gil is correct about the streetlights so I'll also go with it been Paris. Might spend some time and see if I can find the buildings at the back to confirm it.
