Kraken was the best out there for some time with fast up and downloading speeds, nice layout and easy to use. Unfortunately it has been going downhill for months now with up/download speeds that can date back to the 90's telephone modems ... who remembers them. I had hoped that it would get better but been set in my ways I've stuck to Kraken and put off switching to another filehost.
With some gentle nudging from friends I have decided to ditch Kraken and start using Pixeldrain from now on. Hope they fair beter than Kraken have.

For the occasional download Pixeldrain is great but its worth noting that they are already introducing restrictions to free downloaders (much as Krakenfiles did once they became popular). Firstly they have limited the number of concurrent downloads you can undertake to 5. They have also started limiting the speed of downloaders (using IP recognition) who download more than 5Gbs of data each day to a maximum of 1gb/s. Whilst 5Gb's and 1Gb/s seems like a generous allocation (and the volume if not the speed limit are the same as Mega's) given the sites increasing popularity and the increasing availability of discographies and complete compilation series on message boards and the like its quite easy to max out the volume limit and trigger the speed restrictions (I do it most days). These restrictions no doubt are required to load balance the Pixeldrain servers and reduce their need to increase server and infrastructure capacity. You can avoid the restrictions by using a VPN and switching locations but that is just another overhead for a downloader
I can only imagine as Pixeldrain becomes more popular and its needs to load balance increase that the restrictions will become stricter.
Furthermore, these relatively lax restrictions apply only to those free downloaders who manually download (ie go to the pixeldrain page and download it from there). If you use a download manager (FDM, JD etc) then the restrictions are much worse as Pixeldrain have adopted the same awful infuriating captcha regime (the one used for commenting here) for hotlinking as is used by Turbobit uses for all of its free downloads making it nigh on impossible to download a batch of pixeldrain downloads with a download manager. Pixeldrain have a clear policy to deter any sort of hotlinking
Its easier to download Rapidgator files with a dedicated download manager than it is a Pixeldrain file these days ~ it never used to be. As much as on the face of it Pixeldrain looks good, there are signs it will follow its predecessors into a far less usable state in the future. So enjoy it while you can. Nio back to downloading....

Thank you to everyone for your comments and insights. As I use the free versions of the various filehosting sites I'm not to concerned about speeds or limitations so long it's not to slow as Kraken became.
We'll see how it goes with Pixeldrain and move on when it gets to slow.

I've had trouble downloading from Kraken lately. Downloads stop with a warning message that the file may contain malware. So this is good news for me.
