Johnny Shines was certainly one of the greatest postwar bluesman and he was moreover a perfect gentleman. I had the opportunity to see him quite often and he even came to our house (with Davis Evans who was playing with him and coaching him through France)for a day. He seemed to like very much French cooking. At that time, all his records had been stolen at his Alabama home and I made him a cassette tape of all of his early recordings (until the Vanguard album). He added comments and jokes at almost each title as we were listening together...
Incredibly strong delivery. Thanks a lot for these songs! Didn´t know Shines but now I'll be on the lookout.
Thanks much for this one. I love Shines' early stuff and "Last Night's Dream" is really one of the most singular blues albums ever recorded. Don't know the Advent and looking forward to hearing it.
