Rufus Luckett - Tell Me Baby (re-post)

Couldn't find anything on Rufus Luckett on internet except that " Tell Me Baby" track was released as a 45 on Jew and Blue Soul. So any info is welcome.
This small piece of Chicago blues is been shared by KansasJoe and I kinda like it.

Are you sure that label is called "Jew"?.. Wouldn't be Jewell would it?

@ Franck Goldwasser, I think it's a strange label name but that's what it's called. Check out the tape cover middle left and http://www.ebay.com/itm/361430080790 for label shot of the 45.

The picture is from the cd I ripped. And now I also found the cassette. In addition to the info on the cd there it says: 'Guitar, Bass, Vocalist And Arranger'. And, yes, the label is 'Jew'. Sorry, no other info.

If you do a google search for Rufus Luckett - Tell Me Baby, and look at images you'll see the 'Jew" record label. Hard to believe, but there it is. Here's a link to the image. I've shared it with a few people who didn't believe it until I showed them the label. That said, the music isn't bad.

According to Rob Ford's Blues Discography 1971-2000, those tracks (effectively on the Jew label, probably for Jewtown another name of the Maxwell Street Market, for Jews came to live here in numbers during the late XIXth and early to middle XXth Centuries) were recorded in Chicago on three sessions between 1987 and 1990). Rufus Luckett is playing guitar and maybe also bass (overdubed) with drums and Carey Bell is blowing the harmonica on several (or all) tracks with maybe Rufus blowing also the hca on other tracks.

This is my uncle and I have the entire cd. I was looking for his music online today because the song Times was stuck in my head and I wanted to hear it. I greatly appreciate that people still love his music and this shows his relevance.

@ Normal Guy, thank you for your comment and I'm pleased that you appreciate the posting of this tape.
Maybe you could tell us something more about your uncle. We would appreciate it.

I did a short interview with Rufus for New City, a Chicago magazine, in 1997 or so. He called his label Jew because he believed that African-Americans were the first Jews.

I believe the original "Tell Me Baby" single was released in 1989. The late Richard Pegue played it on his Saturday night dusties show on Chicago's WGCI (even though it was brand new). Also, that same year, it was reviewed in Illinois Entertainer, in their "local music" column.

Thank you James Porter for filling some more info on this release and Rufus Luckett.
