Johnny Cool - My Funky Woman (mono, repost)
Another rare tape from KansasJoe. I couldn't find anything on the internet so you'll have to make do with the liner notes.
Bought this cassete with the 'Memphis Blues Band Live' fom Johnny Cool in Utrecht at the Blues Estafettes 1999. I think he was backing Fred Sanders. Is he the Johnny Johnson on this side: http://jocelyn.richez.free.fr/Utrecht/sanders.html ?
Johnny Cool was from Memphis and crazy as all get-out. He would always swear he had been featured in recent blockbuster films that had just come out. When I used to play piano with the late jazz drummer Bill Tyus at Marmalade's Restaurant on Calhoun Avenue in Memphis, he would come in and sit in on drums. He was a decent drummer, but crazy as a loon, and he kept a bottle buried in the ground out in front of the restaurant. I haven't seen him in years, and wouldn't be surprised if he had passed away.
I agree with Xyros. Thanks a lot, JDogg for your memories. We certainly need more of memories from people like you who knew and met those quite ill-known bluesmen (and women) and thus can give us a proper image of them!
